Dario shines in UP loss at Filoil Opener

Excitement filled the air at San Juan’s famous arena as UP battled it out with DLSU in the Opening Day of the 12th Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup. The match went down to the wire, but in the end, the Fighting Maroons bowed down to the towers of La Salle with the final score of 82-79.

Justine Baltazar led the way for the Archers with 16 points and 6 boards to get their first win. Impressive performances were also seen from Kira Samuel and Andrei Caracut who dropped 12 and 11 points respectively.

Despite UP’s loss, UAAP Season 80 ROY Juan Gomez de Liaño scored 21 points while Bright Akhuetie ended up with a double-double as he racked up 12 points and 15 rebounds.

The pressure was on the leaders of UP Men’s Basketball Team as they tried to start their Filoil Cup campaign with a win, but it was Diego Dario who wowed the fans in attendance. Dario dropped 16 points in just 17 minutes. He was even able to sink in a clutch three-pointer to inch closer to La Salle in the game’s final minute. However, the team fell short to secure a victory as La Salle’s free throw shooting proved to be enough to get a 1-0 start to the tournament.

UP aims to bounce back as they suit up once again the next day in their game against Mapua Cardinals.
