UP Pep Squad along with selected members of the UP Filipiniana Dance Troupe grabbed Philippines’ first gold medal in an international cheerleading competition at the Asian Cheerleading Dancesport Championships (ACDC) held at Jakarta, Indonesia from November 26-27, 2016.
This is after the UP Pep Squad skipped this year’s UAAP Cheerdance Competition 2016 , won by the NU Pep Squad. Lead by their team captain Joseph Guevarra and Karlene Ramos, the UP Pep Squad also bagged silver medals for the All-Female Team Cheer, Cheerdance Duo and Cheerdance Group categories.
The contingent from UP, who represented the Philippines in ACDC 2016, also brought home bronze medals for the All-Female Group Stunts and Mixed Team Cheer divisions. Prior to the competition and the UAAP CDC 2016, UP Pep Squad and the entire Philippine contingent had a sendoff where they performed the now-trending UP “Salamat” routine: Thank U.Po – watch the video here:
The UP Pep Squad sendoff happened last November 16 at the College of Human Kinetics, UP Diliman.
Aside from the ACDC, the UP Pep Squad will also be the Philippine representative for the 9th Cheerleading World Championships to be held in Takasaki City, Japan. It must be noted that this was the first time that the Philippine National Anthem was played during an international cheerleading competition, after UP bagged for Philippines its first gold.
